97,500km of physical tire testing no longer needed

13,000 tires saved by reducing physical tire iterations to just one
A new facility, complete with VI-grade simulator, will enhance tire development and reduce the need for physical iterations
March 2024 saw the official opening of Goodyear’s new Simulation Center in Luxembourg – a facility that will enhance the maker’s tire design and development process.
The new center is outfitted with a DiM250 dynamic driving simulator developed by VI-grade, and will enable Goodyear to improve collaboration with vehicle OEMs and support personalized product development.
Using a virtual tire development process, Goodyear’s team can utilize the Simulation Center to test and validate tire models for car models that do not yet exist. This can speed up production and ensure tire modifications can be made during the development process.
“The opening of our industryleading Simulation Center in Luxembourg displays Goodyear’s commitment to investing in and shaping the future of mobility,” said Romain Hansen, VP for EMEA product development at Goodyear.
“Our virtual tire development team has run numerous projects to date with the leading OEMs from Europe, the US and China. Once the automotive engineers experience our virtual development process, they acknowledge both the potential business and possible sustainability impacts.”
The Simulation Center will also help Goodyear achieve first approval for all development tires with only one physical iteration. Based on Goodyear’s calculations, this will save an average of 13,000 tires and 97,500km of physical tire testing.
